Teams don’t just happen – they are built. Leaders are rarely born – but they are regularly made. With the modern focus on project based working, many more people find themselves leading teams, whether they have the formal title or not.

Here are some examples of our short courses designed to both introduce and further develop the skills of those involved in building and leading teams.

Introduction to Building and Leading Teams – 1 Day

This course is designed to introduce participants to the principles of how successful teams work and how to generate that success within the teams they work with and are responsible for.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to

• Describe the principles of group dynamics in teams
• Identify the key elements of motivational theories and hierarchies of needs relevant to building successful teams
• Assess the methods of communication within teams and how these might best work for them
• Identify their own and other’s leadership styles
• Link leadership styles with the development stage of their team
• Write a personal action plan for developing your skills in the future

Introduction to Practical Leadership Skills – 1 Day

This course focuses on the role of the leader within an organisation and a team including an opportunity to consider setting objectives and team motivation, as well as individual leadership styles.

This is a practical course, which assumes no prior knowledge or training in this area and encourages participants to use their own experience to inform exercises and discussions about this important subject.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to

• Identify the characteristics of high performing teams
• Understand how to set appropriate objectives and goals for and with their team
• Increase your ability to empower and motivate the team
• Use effective communication strategies with your team
• Build on your own leadership style within the team
• Write a personal action plan for developing your skills in the future

People and Team Management for Paid & Volunteer Staff – 2 Days

Developing and managing your team, whether they are paid or volunteer staff, is a skill that can be learned and developed. By understanding what motivates and drives successful teams we can gain insights into how to nurture these skills in our own organisation.

This course is designed for managers and team leaders who have at least 3 months experience in management and who would like to use their experience to consolidate and develop new strategies for success.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to

• Identify what a team is and how to manage and get the most out of a team.
• Understand management styles and how to relate them to the different group dynamics in your team for improved results
• Manage performance and deal with motivational needs of the team to support future success.
• Write a personal action plan for developing your skills in the future
